Cash App does not need your Social Security number to open an account, but it does need at least the last four digits of your SSN — or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number — before it will let you do much beyond small transfers. Without that information, your account is capped at $1,000 in combined sending and receiving over any rolling 30-day period, and several features stay locked. If you only move small amounts between friends now and then, you can skip it. Most regular users end up handing it over.
