Yes, credit cards do have PINs, and yours may already have one assigned even if you never picked it. Three routes are common. Pick whichever your issuer supports.
- Through the mobile app or website. Log in, find the security or card management section, and follow the prompts to create a four-digit code. This usually activates the PIN right away.
- By phone. Call your issuer’s automated line and enter the digits on the keypad. You will verify your identity first, typically with your account number and details like your date of birth.

Why You Should Think Twice Before Using It for Cash
Having a PIN is useful. Using it for a cash advance is expensive. Before you pull cash from your credit card at an ATM, know what the transaction actually costs:
- The cash advance APR is typically higher than the purchase APR on the same card, often above 25%.

Your cash advance limit is also not the same as your credit limit. Issuers cap it at a portion of the total line. Choosing and Protecting the PIN
The PIN only helps if it stays private. Skip obvious codes like 1234 or 0000, and avoid anything drawn from your birthday, phone number, or home address, all of which a thief can find through public records or a stolen wallet.
At ATMs and payment terminals, cover the keypad with your free hand as you type. Thieves at terminals rely on two tools: skimmers placed over the card reader to capture card data, and hidden cameras aimed at the keypad to record your keystrokes. Newer shimmers slip inside the chip reader itself and are harder to spot, but covering the keypad still defeats the camera side of either rig.
